Do you know about Rule 57?
For the safety of the driver and other road users, many countries have legislation in place that requests owners secure their pets while a vehicle is moving. Yet research suggests that around the globe, awareness of these laws is fairly low. Insurance companies are also starting to take a stronger stance on this. If your unrestrained dog is found to have contributed to a road accident, your insurance claim may be invalidated – and nobody wants that.
Rule 57 in the Highway Code states: "When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars."
